Vote Paul Ray in the Lichfield Constituency for a Brighter Future

June 6, 2017 2:42 PM

Paul Ray, the Liberal Democrat candidate for Lichfield and Burntwood in the General Election has urged voters to VOTE LIBERAL DEMOCRAT as election day approaches.

Paul Ray said "During the campaign I have had the opportunity to set out the key and distinctive policies of the Lib Dems. These have been really well received on the doorstep.

1. Brexit - Someone has to make the final decision on our deal with the EU. This is a decision that will affect our country for the next 50 years and beyond. The Liberal Democrats will give you the people a chance to change Britain's future by holding a referendum on the final Brexit deal with the option to remain.

The Conservatives and Labour do NOT offer you that option.

2. NHS - The Liberal Democrats will introduce a 1p rise on Income tax raising around £6bn per year. That will be ring-fenced for spending on the NHS and care services. This would mean £14m of extra funding for the NHS in our area.

We would not introduce a cruel Dementia Tax like the Conservatives will. We will cap the amount that you have to pay for your care in your old age at £72,000.

3. Schools - The Liberal Democrats will invest nearly £7bn in our schools and colleges over the next parliament, to ensure no school, and no child loses out. The Conservatives' spending plans mean that Lichfield schools would face a 6% cut and Burntwood schools a massive 18% cut. That is just not right or fair. We would reverse those cuts and give schools and colleges the extra £7bn investment they need.

4. Police - The Liberal Democrats will invest an extra £300m a year into policing. Under the Conservatives our police force has been cut by more than 20,000.

5. Housing - The lack of affordable housing is a major issue in particular for young people. We would get serious about tackling this by building 300,000 houses each year - that is double the current target. The Conservatives are just not getting serious about this issue. Here in Lichfield and Burntwood the affordable housing need is 700 homes a year. Under the Conservative council in 2016 32 were built. That is a shameful record.

We have a vision for a brighter future for you and our country. I urge you to VOTE PAUL RAY, LIBERAL DEMOCRAT."
