Paul Ray at Lichfield Hustings Meeting

December 10, 2019 1:10 PM

Lichfield Hustings 2019

Wade Street Lichfield Church was full, upstairs and down, and even the hall next door looked busy with live feed to a large TV there.

Quite heated for Lichfield I'd say!

Lots of support for Paul and lots of challenge for Fabricant - with Fabricant even suggesting that some of the audience had been imported from outside the area just to heckle him!

"Paul came over as honest and direct and looked more like someone I'd trust to represent us in Westminster than any of the others"

Fabricant looked a bit too smug and smiley - even playing on his phone and at one point when the Greens candidate was talking, tapping the chairman and smiling as he showed him his phone screen - awful rudeness.

Felt like as much, perhaps even more, support for a People's Vote or Remain than for Brexit

Mr Fabricant's remarks were largely about himself rather than Conservative policies, we could reasonably expect more local action (Friary Grange?) from an MP of more than 25 years' standing. Today he is blaming the reception he got last night (he was the only speaker to be heckled at any length) on Momentum supporters from Birmingham. Is his accusation a Fabrication, or can anyone bring evidence to support his assertion? The people we saw heckling were recognised as residents of Lichfield and Burntwood. Added to which, he failed to recognise the rules of debate, and had to be stopped by the Reverend Ian Hayter from engaging in a verbal mano a mano with a member of the audience.
