Christine Rapley was elected to Lichfield City Council for Chadsmead ward in May 2019
"I am a novice to local politics but take a keen interest in UK politics even to the extent of listening to Parliament TV.
I have an unusual background - having left my family home at age 16 to train as a dancer in London. I had a successful varied career as dancer, teacher and choreographer running a small dance company that toured the UK. I was a popular guest teacher in London, for training institutions in UK and abroad. Dance gave me the opportunity to travel to USA, and most of Europe.
In 1988 I moved to Birmingham, and for 4 years attended an Alexander Technique Training Course from which I qualified in 1992. Around this time I stopped dancing and worked as Support Staff for various crime departments of West Midlands Police. My job involved data input of crime reports, processing Criminal Injuries Compensation applications, PNC searches and theft of motor vehicle reports administration. Juggling part time Alexander teaching and office work - I moved to Lichfield in 1998.
I took voluntary early retirement from West Midlands Police in 2011. Of retirement age, I continue to teach the Alexander Technique having done so continuously for 25 years.
I have over the years come into contact with people from many walks of life. Having lived in Lichfield now for over 20 years I enjoy life in this beautiful city that has a broad demographic.
I share the aspirations of the Liberal Democrats for a fair society. I would take seriously the responsibilities of working with others to improve aspects of Lichfield life for residents. I'm moderately articulate, willing to learn and have quite good organisational and office skills. I'm interested in people. "
