John Smith ()

John Smith candidate for the Lichfield Rural South division in the May 2021 Staffordshire County Council Election

John was born in Lincolnshire and educated at King Edward VI Grammar School in Louth. On leaving school John moved to Scunthorpe to train as a site engineer with a civil engineering company. At first he worked almost entirely on railway track laying projects but after changing companies moved to civil engineering. In Scunthorpe John met and married Barbara and they had three sons, Stuart, Adrian and Christopher. Work eventually brought them to the Midlands where John worked on such schemes as Minworth Sewage works, A38 Weeford to Canwell before a change of career path saw him become a building estimator. The family were then transferred to the North East where they spent 12 years before returning to the Midlands 30 years ago and settling in Lichfield.

Over the years John has served for a total of 14years as either an assistant churchwarden or churchwarden in Stockton on Tees and at St Chad's Lichfield . His final year was 2002.

John is now retired and his hobbies are bellringing, gardening and travel.

His main political interests are environment and education.

John is a governor at St Chad's Primary School Lichfield He has served on board of governors for 15 years .He was also a governor at Willows School for 12 years up until 2018.

John has in the past been a City Councillor for the Leomansley Ward for a total of 12 years and District Councillor for 8 years in the same Ward. He is currently a City Councillor for St John's Ward having been elected in 2018
