Paul McDermott, although originally from Manchester, has lived in Lichfield since 1974. He has 2 sons and 3 grandchildren, all still living in Staffordshire. A graduate in Paper Science, he has run his own business in the paper industry since 1992, working with various European paper mills. He also acts as Hon. Secretary for the Birmingham Paper Trade Social Society. Paul is a worship leader at Lichfield Methodist Church and treasurer for the Tamworth and Lichfield Circuit of Methodist churches. A former Captain of 1st Lichfield Boys' Brigade he continues an active interest in the Company as their treasurer. His other interests include music and travel.

Elected to Lichfield City Council in May 2019 he now sits on the Staffing and Grant Applications Committees and is Deputy Chair of the Markets Working Group. In January 2021 he took over as leader of the Lib Dem group on Lichfield City Council.

"For too long Staffordshire County Council has been run by the Conservative Party, the same party who in Government have

- given away billions of pounds of taxpayers' money to their friends on a failed Test & Trace system for Covid-19 and expensive yet inadequate PPE, all without public scrutiny.

- failed to support our overstretched NHS and care services.

- delivered a Brexit "deal" that has crippled our fishing and livestock industries and imposed a huge paperwork burden on all businesses dealing with our neighbours in Europe.

I believe it is now time for some fresh air in Staffordshire County politics and I promise, if elected, to work to the best of my ability to serve everyone in Lichfield, Alrewas, Fradley, Streethay and the whole of Staffordshire in an open and honest way."
