Disaffected Conservatives move to the Lib Dems
The Lib Dems are attracting more and more support from Conservative voters who are just fed up with the Conservative party.
The Lib Dems are seeing this in their local party in the constituency covering Lichfield, Burntwood and the villages where Cllr Richard Henshaw and Jordan Lane were previous Conservative supporters but are now firm Lib Dem supporters.
Why the change of opinion?
Jordan Lane – “I’ve always had an interest in politics. When I was 17 I became a Conservative supporter. Since leaving school I have worked in many industries. I have slowly lost my trust in the Conservative party. During Covid I worked as a Community Carer and it was during this time I was witness to just how poor the condition of the NHS really was due to the lack of investment by the Conservative government. Seeing those in need of attention wait beyond what is reasonable, is nothing short of neglect. These are peoples’ mothers, fathers and grandparents who have paid their taxes all their lives and now need the support of the state. They have contributed to that all their lives, so it is only right that they then get the help they need. This is why I now support Liberal Democrats and I believe in Ed Davey’s Fair Deal. It’s time for a Fair Deal for our economy, for our environment, and our NHS.”
Cllr Richard Henshaw who was a GP in Lichfield for 23 years adds; “For me the Lib Dems’ stance on public services is so important. They believe in strong public services funded by a fair tax system and our leader, Ed Davey is passionate about improving social care and the NHS. Also sensible and radical ideas do not frighten us and we are economically literate and honest and will not be reckless in spending your money.”
Chris James - “My wife and I are shortly expecting our first child and looking forward. The Lib Dems’ manifesto for this election sets out policies that reflect the values of fairness, community and compassion that are important to me and my family. These include policies to tackle the crisis in the NHS (including NHS dentistry - my wife has experienced this first hand) and with housing for future generations and to properly protect our environment. Then this would be funded by a fair taxation system that does not put the tax burden disproportionately on lower earners.”
Some specific policies that the Lib Dems have announced that deliver against these values are;
1. Everyone to have a legal right to see their GP within a week or 24hrs if it is urgent
2. Put an end to NHS dental service crisis
3. Fix our care system. We will provide free personal care. The Lib Dems are the voice of our 9 million carers
4. End the scandal of sewage dumping into our rivers for good and ban bonuses for water bosses until it ends
5. Our housing market is fundamentally unfair. So we will build 150,000 social homes each year.
Paul Ray, the Lib Dems’ candidate for the General Election in Lichfield, Burntwood and the villages has said “We are seeing more and more support from previous Conservative voters who are attracted by sensible and fair policies of the Lib Dems. I urge Conservative voters to vote for me and the Lib Dems on 4 July. We won’t take you for granted.”
