Lichfield Friarsgate site
In response to the promise from the Lichfield District Council's leader that the next 12 months would see some progress with the former Friarsgate site Cllr Paul Ray writes, "The patience of residents is wearing thin on this long-awaited redevelopment of Lichfield city centre"
"I raised a number times during the last year concerns about the lack of activity at the Friarsgate site and made specific proposals including, as in the original plan, about 100 town houses and flats on the site. There is very large demand for housing in Lichfield, so let's get this building started - and as part of the plan to tackle the housing crisis in our area these houses or flats must be affordable."
AND THE COUNCIL MUST ENSURE THAT THERE ARE SUFFICIENT FACILITIES IN PARTICULAR GP SURGERY AND SCHOOL PLACES WHEN THESE PROPERTIES ARE BUILT.
"I appreciate that there has been a pandemic but the economy has picked up - so why is there still no action on site by the Council?
"Worryingly the Council are also making noises about not delivering on the new leisure centre they committed to in 2019.
"Surely it's time for action."
