THE PLANS FOR THE BIRMINGHAM ROAD SITE HAVE NOW BEEN PUBLISHED. LIB DEMS SAY THAT THEY ARE JUST NOT RIGHT FOR LICHFIELD

Cllr Paul Ray, leader of the Liberal Democrat councillors on Lichfield District Council, has issued a statement about the proposed plans for the Birmingham Road Site.

“Councillors will be discussing the plans for the Birmingham Road Site (BRS)at a full council meeting on Tuesday and the proposal for the initial phase on the old Kennings garage site to be sold to a developer.

The overall plan for the BRS has now been revealed and made public (see photo) and the Lichfield Lib Dems say that it is simply just not right for Lichfield.

I have been on the Task Group that has overseen these plans and have continually raised objections but the other parties on the Task Group have supported these plans. Those meetings were confidential but now the plans are public and so available for all to see.

The Lib Dem’s main objections to the plans are;

- they are so unimaginative. They create just big blocks of housing in the centre of our beautiful city.

- the plans involve just too many homes on this site;  300 +.

- the original aspiration was that there would be some real open space where people can meet, have a coffee and relax. That aspiration has been ignored.

The original objective was to make the BRS development a place of impact and style as it is a gateway into the city. These plans just do not achieve that.

So the Lib Dem councillors say that we can do so much better with the BRS than these plans. We are asking residents “Is this really what you want?” and to get in touch with us to let us know your views.”
